‘For thousands throughout Kern County, gaining access to the right resources during tax season is essential to receiving a full tax refund. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is an IRS-supported tax preparation service through which trained volunteers prepare taxes at no cost for qualifying individuals and families. For the past 10 years, the Kern Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program has helped thousands claim the most out of their tax returns, including the California Earned Income Tax Credit.
Families who earn less than $13,870 may qualify for this credit and combined with the Federal Income Tax Credit, it can mean up to about $8,000 in tax refund,’ Nataly Santamaria said. She works as the program’s coordinator. ‘
